Clemson Coordinator Moves

Putting this here for now to discuss in parallel with our new recruits.

"Clemson University and Head Coach Dabo Swinney announced several changes and promotions Tuesday within their football coaching staff.

Brandon Streeter was promoted to Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach while Wes Goodwin was promoted to Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach.

Safeties Coach Mickey Conn was also named Co-Defensive Coordinator while Cornerbacks Coach Mike Reed was named Special Teams Coordinator.

Recruiting Coordinator and Defensive Tackles Coach Todd Bates was also promoted to Assistant Head Coach.

Clemson also named Kyle Richardson the Passing Game Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach. Richardson was previously Director of High School Relations and Special Assistant to the Offense."

Interesting moves.  No big-money hires to supposedly keep the CFP train rolling.

Agree they now have a national brand and can bring in high caliber assistants, just seems weird.  Saban loses a coordinator and he brings in someone every knows.  Seems like if for no other reason you bring in big names to keep the confidence and recruiting at a high level.  I don't see how they keep the recruiting in place with first time coordinators is very big spots.

I anticipate a Red Man shortage as Taters across the land seek to calm their nerves, especially if ISU beats them in the bowl game which is both possible and likely.

Most taters I talk to at work spew the same message.   They have faith in Dabo until proven otherwise.  At least that’s what they want to put out there.   I think internally they’re very worried that Dabo thinks he’s the assistant whisperer.   Promoting Streeter from a position where he most recently had questionable results seems odd.

It seems to me that Dabo has confidence in his mentoring capabilities, that these individuals were part of the the succession planning by Dabo, and have been groomed accordingly.  If that is actually true, then it is a sign of good organizational planning.  There is coherence and stability there.  Also appointing from within is huge for the morale of the coaches under Dabo.

Now time will tell, if the "appointed heirs" are worthy of their predecessors.
