Headed to the Iron Bowl

As expected, 4-star linebacker Channing Tindall will be in Auburn this weekend for the Iron Bowl. On Thursday night, he announced that it would be an official visit.

Though Georgia and South Carolina, of late, have been the primary contenders for that No. 1 spot on Tindall’s list, let’s remember a few things about Auburn.

Linebackers coach Travis Williams went to Tindall’s high school, Spring Valley.

Among the assistant coaches recruiting him, Tindall has the closest connection to Williams.

One of Tindall’s buddies from the recruiting scene, Richard Jibunor, committed to Auburn on Thanksgiving.

This could potentially be a monster weekend for Auburn. Making a big move with Tindall would make it that much bigger for the Tigers.

High school playoffs

It’s semifinal Friday for high school football in the state of South Carolina. Two Gamecock commitments will be playing.

Four-star quarterback Dakereon Joyner leads Fort Dorchester back to Dutch Fork for a rematch of the Sept. 1 game, which saw Joyner and the Patriots roll to an impressive win. This game’s winner advances to play the winner of Dorman and Gaffney.

Greer and South Pointe play in the Upper State 4A semifinal with Hartsville and Berkeley playing in the Lower State. In 3A action, Chapman-Emerald plays the winner of Dillon and Brookland-Cayce.

The championship games in those three division are next Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

The 2A and 1A games are set for next Friday at Benedict College. Abbeville, Saluda, Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Barnwell are still in play for the 2A title.

Three-star wide receiver Darius Rush leads CE Murray against Baptist Hill. The winner advances to play Ridge-Spring-Moneta or Lamar.
