Coach Beamers' Sunday conference call

Oct. 30, 2021

The open week help get the Gamecocks' healthier, all except for Jaylin Dickerson, most of the walking wounded are feeling better.

Quarterback Zeb Noland, who had a minor knee procedure during the week, practiced some on Sunday. Beamer expects Noland to be available Saturday night against the Gators, but he’s not naming a starting quarterback right now. He wants to see how Noland progresses, and how Jason Brown and Colten Gauthier compete this week.

The Gamecocks go into the final month of the regular season at 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the SEC. They opened as 20-point underdogs to Florida, and the line has moved slightly to Florida as a 19-point favorite.

Beamer met with the media Sunday night on a conference call to review the open week and look ahead to the Gators

Beamer: practiced three times during off weekend and they were three of their most spirited practices of the season. Had a team meeting this afternoon and practiced for about an hour, lot of energy.

Beamer: Dickerson is doubtful for this week, Noland was limited in practice tonight but optimistic about his availability, is confident in the other quarterbacks, other banged up players benefited from the weekend off.

Beamer: Not sure when he'll decide on starting quarterback for Saturday, wants to see how Noland comes along and how Brown and Gauthier compete.

Beamer: Harris looked good in practice and looked healthy, he was limited in the Texas A&M game, and he feels a lot better.

Beamer: Did some self-scout work in the open week, did a good bit of good on good, didn't do a lot on Florida last week, a little bit on the Gators on Wednesday, did a lot of competitive drills during the week.

Beamer: Murphy was a little limited in practice last week coming off the A&M game, got a little bit of work in tonight, he's continuing to get better along with Wannamaker, Manos and Jones.

Beamer: Less and less likely DT Rick Sandidge will play this season, when he first got hurt thought he would be back by the end of October. At this point, they aren't counting on him.

Beamer: Does not believe the offense is too complex, they are carrying fewer plays into games right now, just because an offense is identified as "pro-style" does not mean it's too complex, saying it's too complex is a "cop out."

Beamer: Their number of busted mental assignments on the offensive side has actually been pretty low to this point.

Beamer: Has not talked to Steve Spurrier during the season just because he hasn't had the chance, but understands Spurrier plans to be in Columbia this weekend for a function that will include Frank Beamer on Friday.

Beamer: Said the message he got back from in-state high school coaches he met with last week was stay with what you're doing, you are doing the right things, we like what we're seeing, encouraging words like that.

I like Shane a lot. I really do. and I desperately want him to succeed. But I don't see how this last item is possible - who could look at what we've seen on the field and think that? Perhaps they are just trying to be supportive.

Hard to sallow and Beamer see's nothing wrong on the offense. Wow blind are what. I want him to secede here as well like the dude but doubts are seeping in. I feel Florida is going to blow the doors off here Saturday night.

I think it's a comment more about process than results.  If you are going to rebuild a team (and let's face it, CSB is not even starting from scratch, he's dealing with a lot of bad team baggage that has to be be "unlearned" just to get to scratch), you teach the process and then the results will come.

Makes sense.

Shane had a visit with Blythewood High's HC Jason Seidel during the bye week.

He's staying focused on recruiting and other positive things while others are more focused on jumping off an I-26 overpass during rush hour.  LOL
