Coach Beamer's Sunday Night Conference Call Quotes
Nov. 06, 2022

Gamecocks' took care of business Saturday night in Nashville beating Vanderbilt for a 14th straight time and becoming bowl eligible with a 6-3 record. And according to head coach Shane Beamer Sunday night, they did so without suffering any new significant injuries. As for running back MarShawn Lloyd, who missed the game with a quad injury, Beamer said he did not do much in practice Sunday night but he’s optimistic he’ll be able to play this week at Florida.

Beamer said there were part of the offensive and defensive performances Saturday night that he really liked, and parts that bothered him a lot. So, for him, it’s great to get a win but still have some things to improve on in practice this week. The Gamecocks will be going for their second straight win over the Gators. Florida opened the week as a nine-point favorite.

QUOTES
Beamer:
Thought Bell looked natural at running back last night, McDowell and Beal-Smith also had some good moments.
Beamer: Martin-Scott did a good job for them last night and Blanton is a very smart player and they help to give them depth at linebacker.
Beamer: Gibson has been great for them as a walk-on, he had been at Naval Academy and was looking to get closer to him and walk-on.
Beamer: Cam Smith had chest cold and that kept him out of the second half, thought the guys they rolled into the secondary did a good job.
Beamer: Gibson having an MRI on his hamstring tomorrow, optimistic he'll be able to play at Florida.
Beamer: No new injuries from last night, optimistic about Lloyd but he didn't do much tonight in practice. See how he looks on Tuesday.
Beamer: Offensive players of the game Rattler and Bell, Defensive players of the game Burch and DQ Smith, Special teams players of the game Rush, Mangrum, Hemingway and Kroeger.
Beamer: Loved how the defense came out and got a turnover from a team that doesn't turn it over, did not tackle well and didn't fit some gaps that turned into explosive runs, a lot to correct and clean up.
Beamer: Had too many penalties last night which is not like them, loved the start the offense had and the lack of turnovers, did not like the way they finished with just seven second half points and not being able to put game away.
Beamer: Getting bowl eligible is not something he ever takes for granted, to do that after nine games considering their start and their defensive injuries something they are proud of but not satisfied.
Beamer: Beamer said the team tackled poorly on defense and misfit some gaps that turned into some explosive runs. Overall, he’s pleased with some of the things that they did. It’s good to win a game on the road in the SEC, but they were able to coach the guys hard on a lot of the things to correct.
