Coach Beamer's Sunday night's Teleconference quotes with audio Beamer "Team is not mentally weak"
Oct. 10, 2021
The Gamecocks face Vanderbilt this Saturday for Homecoming, and they are now 20-point favorites after opening as 16-point favorites. The Gamecocks are looking for their first SEC win under Beamer, and looking to snap a nine-game SEC losing streak dating back to last season. Beamer added there were no new major injuries Saturday and he expects to have starting corner, Cam Smith, back this weekend.
Beamer: The football team he knows and knows they can be showed up in the third and fourth quarters, knows they have to have that for four quarters, have to learn how to win, showed some flashes, thought if they had scored the 2-point conversion they would win.
Beamer: Not going to let one quarter define the team, they've worked too hard, they are too close as a team to allow that to happen.
Beamer: No new major injuries, just bumps and bruises, and soreness, very physical game yesterday, will have Cam Smith back, missed him for the game and Roderick for the first half.
Beamer: Story of this team is still being written, up to them as to how they want that story to be written.
Beamer: They were too loose at times with their coverage, need to be snugger on receivers, and challenge them more at times.
Beamer: Team is not mentally weak.
Beamer: Had a lot of deep passes called at Tennessee, have to continue to throw it down the field, have to create explosives, didn't do a good job with that Saturday.
Beamer: Thought the backup linemen who went in Saturday played great...Murphy, Wannamaker, and Moore. Also, Hank Manos has looked good in practice, and he wants to get him in, those guys have practiced hard and well. Competition continues.
