Coach Muschamp Weekly Presser Highlight Quotes

Sept. 17, 2019

Muschamp on Dakereon Joyner and Jay Urich playing multiple spots: Difficult to be fair with them on prep. It's tough to get the time with the different coaches. Joyner practicing both. Jay Urich is spending time with receivers and getting briefed on what's happening in QB room.

Muschamp on Mizzou QB Kelly Bryant: Really good command of what they do. He's changing protections and directing traffic with great comfort.

Muschamp on Hilinski's attitude: He hasn't changed. He's the same with his teammates, although, I'm sure he's attracted some followers since becoming the starting quarterback.

Muschamp: WR Randrecous Davis and BUCK Brad Johnson are still out and are not expected back until after bye week.

Muschamp on DB Jamyest Williams: Needs consistency. Needs to eliminate mental mistakes. It's not just him. You have to communicate in defensive backfield and there's lots of guys that need to play better.

Muschamp: DL Keir Thomas has been cleared for some exercise. Our another two or three weeks with his ankle infection.

Muschamp on Hilinski throwing 57 times: We have to do what we have to do to try to win the game. Skill players are so advanced at a young age because of 7-on-7 and individual training.

Will Muschamp: Have to stay balanced and provide Ryan a run game. We need to develop the running game each week and protect the quarterback.

Muschamp on Mizzou's running game: They get North-South quickly. We played them last season, so we have a good idea about how good those guys are.

Muschamp on first divisional game: We had good energy at practice. This is the first Eastern Division opponent and our leaders stressed that.

Muschamp on tackling: We missed 11 tackles. We need to stop getting balls off the players before we stop them. We should stop them first and then get the ball of them. We've coached that. Players have to make decisions.

Muschamp on aggressiveness on offense: It's game to game. What puts in the best position to win the game. Depends on how the game is going. We thought we needed to "steal some possessions".

Muschamp: There was a lot to like about Ryan Hilinski’s performance. There are things that we have to coach him up on but there are intangibles, like fortitude and toughness, he has that don’t need to be coached up.

Will Muschamp: Our guys played their asses off, Saturday. We have really good leadership and a good culture. It’s not where we thought we’d be but it’s where we are. Now we're focused on what we need to do to crawl out of it and our leaders understand that.

We really need Kier back on that line.  Having that senior leadership up there is important.
