Sorry to hear of his death this morning.

A source familiar with the matter said Powell had multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells that suppresses the body's immune response. Even if fully vaccinated against Covid-19, those who are immunocompromised are at greater risk from the virus.

This is a really good book to read.  It talks about how the generation of officers that cleaned up the services after the Vietnam War to put them in a position to do well in Desert Storm.

Powell kicked all of the embedded druggies and problem children out of his unit in South Korea in the years immediately after the Vietnam War.  He and many other Vietnam veterans stayed in and made the military a much better place going into Desert Storm.

The book is an eye-opener for anyone like me who served in the 1990s.  It's a great read.
