Colorado State fires Mike Bobo from head coach role

Dec. 04, 2019

A coach with potential to be the next Carolina offensive coordinator just came on the market. Colorado State fired head coach Mike Bobo on Wednesday, ending his five-year tenure in Fort Collins. (VIEW ARTICLE)

NO...NO...NO... Hire Shaw as OC... It is time to hire our own people
Dude. How much coaching experience does Shaw have? He coach a bit at Furman form what I remember.

He was a great QB no doubt but great QBs does not equal great coach. Your goin to propose to take a guy with virtually zero coaching experience and make him OC!

Could he do any worse.... There are a lot of Talented USC ALUMNI.... Time to hire people that care about USC

Never coached a game at Furman.  He was hired in January 2018 and left in July that year.

Ok, he has no coaching experience, but he did have an outstanding pro career...so there's that.

Case for not hiring ex players...our current AD Tanner went from coach to ad let’s not make same mistake with player to coach...

Well aware.  the analogy was about promoting from within or with emotional ties. A usc alum is an experiment at this point.

it made sense to me in my mind anyway when I thought of it

Yes he could. Putting someone with zero coaching experience and making him OC is a recipe for disaster. I'm not saying he will fail. (he could be the next Steve Spurrier). Put him in as a position coach and let him get experience and work his way up.

I’d be ok with Bobo.  Lots of experience, he knows the SEC, develops QBs.  He’s not the most flashy hire but a safe bet.

I cannot see why people do not want to hire Bobo. Here is his record as OC at UGA.

2007 11-2, 2008 10-3, 2009 8-5, 2010 6-7, 2011 10-4, 2012 12-2, 2013 8-5, 2014 10-3

And they went to a bowl every single year. Is he ready to turn us into a CFB playoff team? Maybe not. But he might be way better than what we had. All year long I was begging for us to have 2 RB's in the game together, Rico and Feaster. Let the D try to guess who will get it, and then throw a play action. Bobo uses several plays like that. Bobo developed both great QB's and great RB's. We used to have fits with Georgia's running game and then when we tried to stack the line they would burn us with the pass. So he did awful as HC at CSU but he has proven to be a pretty darn good SEC level OC.

Last time he promoted someone with no experience calling plays, we got Bmac. Nothing against Shaw, but Bmac still had a lot of coaching experience and he struggled to call plays. If Muschamp wants to bring in some alums as analysts or even possibly position coaches, great, but expecting someone who has next to zero coaching experience  to come in, call plays in the toughest league in college football, against guys that have done it for decades is wishful thinking at best.

Because people want to see muschamp go outside of his friends and make a splash hire that is not an SEC rerun.

I think people want someone that will run something a little more wide open.  We currently don't have the line or backs to run the type offense Bobo ran at GA.  It may help recruit another stud back to go with Loyd or maybe Harris can be that guy, but I still think we need serious help on the O-line to pull that off.  I think a spread fast paced offense would help mask our deficiencies in many of these areas and also help with bringing in more skill type players, but who knows.

If CWM hires Bobo or any other so called friend, ex team mate, ex-coaching buddy, it will be because he thinks that coach can and will get our offense going. This is a biz decision, not a doing a friend a favor thing. Remember that CWM ass is on the line more than anyone so the pressure is on him to make the best decision possible. That is another problem with hiring a well know OC, everyone including OC candidates know that CWM is on a little bit of think ice so guys like Freeze (no pun intended) and other high profile coaches are going to be hard to bag.

You would think that the new OC would be thinking about possibly replacing Champ. But if the new OC don't make changes that result in wins, why would Tanner want to promote him?

This is just the case of us needing someone that feels they can make the necessary changes, and that is willing to do it under a HC like Champ. Personally, I do not think Champ interferes to much on the O. Yes, he makes suggestions from what he sees happening, but I think he lets his OC and his coaches decide the plays. I do believe Champ makes defensive calls. That's his passion.

Bobo might be the guy, Morris I am not sure about. Freeze could be the guy. I just hope Champ has someone within the next couple weeks and they bring some new recruits here. I don't feel Bobo could do that either coming all the way from Colorado. I really like Kalen Deboer, the Indiana OC. Look what he did there. Give him some SEC talent  and he might really help a team turn around. They lost to the ranked teams they played but with better talent they may have done way better. 8-4 is way better than we did.
