I think QB Connor Shaw is going to have a bigger year in 2012 for the Gamecocks and put up some BIG numbers (stats) while winning more games in 2012 compared to 2011. The Gamecocks QB position has been a weakness for the team filled with inconsistent QB play going back to Blake Mitchell under Coach Spurrier, but now it is a strength for the team. Connor Shaw is the QB and the leader on and off the field that Coach Spurrier has been looking for since he became the Gamecocks head football coach. Connor Shaw is the complete QB, great on and off the field. Other teams will focus their defense on stopping the Gamecocks running game and overlook Connor Shaw's arms strength and his passing ability. Connor Shaw can beat teams with his arm and his legs (4.5 forty speed). The Gamecocks passing game will be better in 2012, even without Alshon Jeffery because of the talent the Gamecocks have at the TE position. The Gamecocks passing game will open things up for All-American RB Marcus Lattimore and the rest of the Gamecocks talented RBs. During the first game of the season Vandy will stack the box trying to stop the Gamecocks run game. A fake hand off to RB Marcus Lattimore and a deep pass play to Bruce Ellington or Damiere Byrd might be the appropriate play call as the Gamecocks first offensive play of the season against Vandy. Connor Shaw will lead the Gamecocks to their first ever SEC Championship and BCS bowl game. The Gamecocks will win the SEC Championship in 2012.
