So...
Wow. Connor has come a LONG way since East Carolina. It was truly remarkable to witness the growth of Connor over the course of this season and to see him firmly take control of the offense. He sold out his body for his team, and even threw in a miracle play to launch his burgeoning legend. The dude is simply a gamer as the kids say.
But enough of the superlatives and fanboy stuff...what will Connor do in 2012? What can we expect from him?
Connor benefits from a tremendous work ethic, a strong and supportive family, and a head coach who respects sacrifice. In this regard, I cannot imagine Connor will come out any less than focused, stronger, and better in the Spring. I expect that Connor will (or probably has already) cement his hold on the leadership of the team. What teammates like is a guy who will take a hit to the helmet, get up, shrug off the cobwebs, and FIST PUMP THE EFFIN CROWD! This is exactly what Connor needed considering the very awkward and slightly cold reception he received from his mates during the Garcia coup in September. This team now believes and belongs to Connor--and I expect him to harden this grip in 2012.
As far as growth, Connor has some work to do with his accuracy and timing. He is getting MUCH MUCH better, but I expect that Spurrier will relish an entire offseason to guide him on his execution with the pass plays and decision making. By Connor's senior year he may surpass Wuerffel in Spurrier's echelon of favorite players--maybe not talent wise, but certainly status wise.
I expect Connor to get acquainted with, and groove with his new WRs. We may even get to see a new QB/WR relationship come out of Spring ball now that Alshon is gone. Letting AJ go will help sharpen Shaw's ability to spread it around to all weapons.
In terms of season, I expect Connor to be right up there with the best QBs in the SEC with overall yardage. He thinks with his legs, and he's a damn good runner, so I don't expect that he'll be breaking any passing records. But he'll be as valuable as any QB in the conference. I truly believe we'll have the most focused, hard working, and determined QB in the SEC by a far mile--and you can bet that will win us some tough games.
Thoughts?
