Conway 4 star WR Bryan Edwards (6-3 208) attended USC’s junior day Saturday with the Gamecocks and Georgia at the top of his list and hoping to get some clarity about his recruiting. Apparently things became real clear to him on this visit because Edwards committed to the Gamecocks.

Edwards, who is regarded as one of the state’s top prospects for the 2016 recruiting class, also had offers from Clemson, Virginia Tech, Florida, Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Wake Forest and Cal. Early on in his recruiting it was USC and Clemson holding the strongest position with Edwards but Clemson went in another direction in recruiting receivers and the Gamecocks strengthened their hold despite a strong push from Georgia.

“I hear from coach Steve Spurrier Jr. about every day and I get a lot of follow from their staff and former players,” Edwards said. “It’s just their constant recruiting.”

And as a receiver, of course Edwards likes the idea of being part of a Steve Spurrier offense which tends to get the ball to big play receivers.

“They spread the ball around,” he said. “They share the wealth. I feel like if I can make plays I can fit in in any offense. Coach Spurrier is a great coach and he’s turned that program up.”

Edwards is the second receiver for USC’s 2016 class joining Kyle Davis of Lawrenceville, GA to give the Gamecocks a pair of 6-3 receivers.
