Coordinator predictions

We’ve all said who we would like now prediction time:

DC Heacock

OC Riley
If this is who we end up with I could not be more excited. Riley is one of THE young and coming new school 'Air Raid' disciples who has worked and learned from THE guys who have taken what Mike Leach...who he play for...and crew literally invented to the next level...coaches like his brother Lincoln and Eli Drinkwitz...not to mention his current boss...Sonny Dykes...at SMU.

And Jon Heacock...who runs his own version of the super versatile 3-3-3...the defense dubbed the 'Air Raid Killer'. You put Beamer in the CEO position here and we will no longer have to worry about being boring or unimaginative on offense or have to ask yourself why don't we blitz and stunt more on defense...or play more man...or force more turnovers...all the things that have driven me crazy over the last couple years.

If you can score more points you can be more aggressive on defense but if you can actually match your offense to work with your defense and visa versa you are really on to something.

We will see but Beamer, Riley and Heacock would be an outstanding start to what could become a truly elite staff

Iowa State is ranked #12 in total defense this year ... i’d take that in a heartbeat!

Not a big fan of the 3-3-3 Defense - I think the Defense performs better with 11 players. Or even 12 or 13, but that usually gets you a penalty. But there were times when it seemed we were using 9 players on Defense this year.

I believe that we need to be more Fast Break on Offense and Defense. Fast Break on Defense means imaginative blitzes to get a sack or a TFL (hard to run against a blitz) that helps to get three and outs. Muschamp liked to play back and give cushions, which meant a lot of short and intermediate gains, but fewer big plays.

But all that did was keep the opposing Offense on the field and wear down our Defense. And it is hard to score when your Offense can't get on the field.
I could be missing the joke here but Heacock's 3-3-3 is the shit:

I think he is saying that 3-3-3 only adds up to 9 players and is making a joke.  Very good reads, thanks for sharing.

Just realized Shane is spending his last game on the Oklahoma sidelines on Saturday playing against one of the coaches rumored to be in the running for DC, Jon Heacock.

Nice post and great links!

But I'm going to go out on a limb and predict some unknown like Marcus Satterfield who is currently with the Panthers.

Nice post and great links!

One thing that jumps out to me is that MS is a lot easier to recruit due to the size. It's a lot easier to find super athletic guys that are not huge than the other way around.

I hope we can get Heacock.
I think everybody is on the Heacock train at this point with of course zero real info about him even being a target or viable candidate ... I hope he is, or this rumor that has gotten legs will leave a lot of folks feeling like whoever gets hired was not the first choice.

3 + 3 + 3 = 9 players. Heacock coaches a 3-3-5 with a Nickelback and a 3 man D Line.

I thought that when we used a Spur, we had a good Ds that matched up well with the wide open Offenses,  because it gave us another pass defender. And we had some really good Spurs, some of whom went on the NFL. Not a particular fan of the Buck, which gives us a n extra D Lineman or LB - that scheme does not mesh well with what people are doing on Offense and makes us slower overall.

I would like to see a 4-4-6, which allows us to double cover the  4top WR, spy the QB and also blitz a lot. But the refs might catch on to that scheme......
I'll be glad to explain the differences when I have the time...btw...3 + 4 and 4 + 3 both add up to 7...yet...

Until then:

If the rumors/hopes about Heacock are true, do you think we'll hear the announcement early next week?

I've heard that too. But I wasn't sure if it was a reputable source, so I'm keeping an open mind. Where did you get your info?
To be honest, a redneck.  I don’t know who he knows, but every time he has said something, it has been dead on.  He told me 12 hours before it broke anywhere that Muschamp had been fired.
