Couple Gamecocks still missing from the roster, one transfers and Muschamp expects Dakereon Joyner to play

August 27, 2019

South Carolina football has been waiting on news about a pair of players, first defensive line recruit Jaquaze Sorrells, a four-star recruit who was the No. 157 player in the 2019 class and not yet on campus, and second tight end transfer Nick Muse, who is waiting on a transfer waiver. I think Champ really respects how Dak has gone about his business and is going to try and get him out there any way they can.

Will Muschamp updates several personnel moves, including another transfer

South Carolina lost its latest tight end this preseason as it is just days away from its opener in Charlotte against North Carolina.

Coach Will Muschamp announced at his weekly press conference that Evan Hinson would transfer and play basketball. Hinson’s departure comes after Kiel Pollard had a medical retirement earlier this preseason because of a back injury.

Kyle Markway is listed as the starter at tight end on the depth chart, with Will Register as the backup. There are also three other tight ends, not including Nick Muse, who is waiting on a NCAA waiver to be cleared to play.

In other personnel news, Muschamp said DT Kier Thomas has an infection in his ankle and is still out, and will be out at least two weeks.

Newly-named third-string QB Dakereon Joyner will play against North Carolina, but Muschamp declined to share the position. Muschamp again reiterated Joynyer’s attitude in his reaction following the news that he lost the backup quarterback competition.

Safety J.T. Ibe, who has dealt with a pectoral injury this preseason, will be ready against the Tar Heels.

The Gamecocks and Tar Heels will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday on ESPN.
