Crystal Ball predictions for South Carolina's defensive targets
April 22, 2019
The 2020 South Carolina Gamecocks recruiting class exited the Easter holiday ranked No. 21 in the country, according to the 247Sports composite.
A foursome of 4-star prospects highlight the five-man class, which includes quarterback Luke Doty(Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and wide receiver Mike Wyman (Greensboro, N.C.), who joined the class less than a week ago.
Even though the class is ranked 21st, South Carolina’s average player rating (92.02) is topped only by nine other teams (Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Oklahoma, Stanford and Nebraska).
Plenty of targets are still on the market to join the 2020 class, which is currently made up of two wide receivers, two offensive linemen and a quarterback. Below is a look at the Crystal Ball selections for some of the offensive prospects that are being courted by the South Carolina Gamecocks.
DE Desmond Evans - Sanford, N.C. (Lee County): The lone reading tells you all you need to know about Evans, a 5-star defensive end who doesn’t appear to be anywhere close to settling on a school. He’s talked about posting a 10-team list of favorites at some point this spring, but has yet to pull the trigger on that announcement. South Carolina had him back on campus a few weeks ago for his first visit since last football season. North Carolina, the team with the only prediction, is certainly off to a strong start. The lure of playing basketball for the Tar Heels has also been cast by the staff in Chapel Hill.
