Recapping Latrell Jean’s first South Carolina recruiting visit
Defensive end Latrell Jean, a 4-star prospect per the 247Sports composite rankings, has two offers: South Carolina and Syracuse. The Gamecocks were first to pull the trigger on the 6-foot-2, 235-pound 2019 prospect from Lakeland (Fla.) High School.
Last month, he visited Columbia for the first time.
“It was great. It felt like home. The whole staff, players, everything — it was fantastic,” Jean said.
Muschamp told him that he’s “what they’re looking for.”
“He likes what he sees and he’s really big on education, so he says if I come there, the first thing I’m going to get is my books,” Jean said. “It’s not all about football with him.”
The Gamecock coaches have made a good impression.
“The staff they have there, they’re real friendly,” Jean said. “They’re great people. They help the players whenever they need them.”
This summer, he also visited Florida State — one of a few schools expressing interest thus far. Florida, Miami and Penn state are also in contact.
Jean, ranked the No. 25 strongside defensive end in the Class of 2019, will consider a few factors as he moves through the recruiting process.
“Education, how good is the education there,” he said. “The campus and the coaching staff. Is it a winning team?”
