Dakereon Joyner what role will he play Saturday

Oct. 18, 2019

Dakereon Joyner was set to take command of the Gamecocks offense Saturday against Georgia, he received a quick message from a member of the team. Center Donell Stanley has been in Columbia going on six years, and he’s not the worst guy to give a little perspective. (VIEW ARTICLE)

If it rains as bad as some think it will, I could see him being the X factor on O.  If it’s raining so much that all you can effectively do is run the ball, then having a running QB in the game could give us an edge.

Florida has a pretty good running WB of their own.  I am not sold on the rain being to our benefit.  Lots of mistakes happen with bad conditions.

I always felt the wet field made footing touch. I think a good QB will be able to deliver the ball and the receivers will get some yards.

Florida run O has been bad this year.  They are averaging 140 on the ground and that’s inflated due to 1-2 games vs miserable D’s.

If a QB or RB for that matter can manage to get a cutback in the rain, there could be some long gains.  Defenses over pursuing will be huge on a wet field.   I like our chances with designed runs from Dak as well as traditional with Rico.    Feaster on some swing passes could be a great play today as well.   Regardless of the QB today the plan has to be to get the ball out quick, obviously.  Don’t want to risk further injury to Ryan or Dak standing in the pocket vs the UF front.

Jay Urich was supposed to be a good recruit for us out of Wren HS.

He was Kelly Bryant's successor at Wren after Bryant graduated and went to Clemson.  Wren runs a spread offense and Urich is playing WR for us now, so he must have some speed.

I don't understand why we didn't try another QB option as a change of pace to throw UF off.  It's not like we didn't know it would be doubtful that Dak would play.

Injuries unfortunately still highlight the fact that we haven't really developed a really good QB since Shaw and Thompson.  Ryan was great of the box just like Jake was, BUT time will tell if he will improve enough to be competitive.  Our lack of production on offense is not just tied to Hilinski, either.

We are still going to have to endure some growing pains with McLendon as OC.  It just is what it is.
