Darius Rush set to enroll as an athlete

December 13, 2017

ROEBUCK, S.C. – Darius Rush, commitment No. 1 to the 2018 South Carolina recruiting class, is currently on the Gamecocks’ board as an athlete.

The 6-foot-2, 179-pound is listed by the 247Sports composite as the No. 218 wide receiver in the country, but he could end up playing defensive back after he arrives to South Carolina next month.

“Wherever I’m needed, [they’ll] put me there,” Rush said, “And that’s fine with me. I just want to get on the field and give it my all.”

As a senior at C.E. Murray High School (Greeleyville, S.C.), Rush caught 47 passes for 863 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Rush offered two personal scouting reports, first as a wide receiver and second as a defensive back, where he tallied 44 tackles, 5 pass breakups and an interception this past season.

“Very explosive, a ball hawk, wants the ball in his hands. When it’s in his hands, he’s going to score with it.”
“As a DB, good at gaining ground and covering a lot of the field.”
Rush, who was the Gamecocks’ first 2018 commitment, looks forward to the opportunity that’s in front of him this spring.

“I’m just going to go out in spring practice and contribute on either side of the ball, wherever they need me, so when I get my opportunity, I’m going to take advantage of it and give it my all,” he said.

“Playing time, it’s there. I can earn it, because no spot is given, it’s earned. If I go out there and show that I really want it, I can earn a spot and get some playing time.”
