Davidson eschews suspense in picking USC

07/02/13

Gaffney WR Shaq Davidson capped a suspense free recruiting experience by putting on a USC cap Tuesday night confirming what the masses have known for months. He wants to play his college football for the Gamecocks. "It feels great to get it off my chest and now I can really focus on the season coming up and more on school work," Davidson said. "Ever since my tenth grade year when I tore my ACL, I felt like they were the ones there the whole time recruiting me the hardest. They were loving and caring and very welcoming. I just felt like that was the place for me to go." Davidson said he developed a strong relationship with Gamecock recruiters Shawn Elliott and Steve Spurrier Jr and he made his final decision last week after discussing things with his mother. He notified the Gamecocks last week of his plans. "They said they were going crazy, jumping out of their shoes and they would love for me to be a Gamecocks," Davidson said. He plans to attend the Black Magic Showcase Camp July 26th and he said the knee injury of two seasons ago is a thing of the past. "I believe I'm 100 percent and I'm glad to be out of the brace," Davidson said. "I've got to get a little more flexibility in my leg. I'm not that flexible." But he was flexible enough in the Gaffney offense last season to catch 24 passes for 340 yards and 10 TDs. Then after moving to quarterback, he passed for 900 yards and 9 TDs and rushed for 600 yards and 7 scores. Davidson becomes USC's 9th commitment for the 2014 class.
