Davis taking junior college route to get to the big-time

Elijah Davis (6-5 290) knew he had the size and skills coming out of
Wagener-Salley High School in 2021 to play major college football. What he
didn’t have was the grades. So, off he went to East Mississippi JC for the 2021
and 2022 seasons. He had 25 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss this season, and
now the big boys are calling once again.
The Will Muschamp staff at South Carolina had offered him during his junior season, and he likely would have signed with the Gamecocks had he been able to. This week he heard from the Shane Beamer staff via defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey. He delivered the big news to Davis that he has an offer from their staff as well.
“It was great having South Carolina reach back out to me and give me an offer,” Davis said. “They’ve been recruiting me all through the year. I’ve been talking to Coach Lindsey. He said my play style is very good, and I’ve picked up on a lot of things I was slack on in high school. They like that about me.”
South Carolina wasn’t alone in taking notice of Davis. Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas Tech also have offered.
“It’s crazy seeing that all these coaches, with me being from a small town, notice that I have a lot of potential and feel like I can be something,” Davis said. “It’s still open. I’m still looking around. I was trying to go on some visits, but I have to wait a year because I was a non-qualifier. I’ll possibly be able to go on some this June and July.”
Davis had planned to visit Ole Miss this coming weekend until being informed he couldn’t make the trip. He’ll go to Oxford, Columbia, Athens and other football hotspots in June and July. Davis does not have a timetable on making a decision.
