Bowen’s official visit
Three-star linebacker Davonne Bowen was among the Gamecocks commitments who made it to Columbia last weekend for an official visit.
Wide receivers OrTre Smith and Shi Smith, offensive lineman Summie Carlay, defensive ends M.J. Webb and Tyreek Johnson and safety Jaylin Dickerson.
“I had a great time being there, (getting) into a lot more things that you can’t do on unofficial visits, being able to talk with coaches and being able to chill and connect with everybody,” he said. “It was just an overall great time.”
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect from Woodmont High School (Piedmont, S.C.) was hosted by freshman linebacker T.J. Brunson.

“I spent the majority of the time with him but also some of the other commits that were there,” Bowen said. “We just kind of linked up and bonded with each other.”
Bowen added, “(Brunson) said South Carolina being a young team, we’re going to be able to build the program up to where it needs to be. He was just saying if you come in there with your head on your shoulders, ready to work and ready to learn … he was saying it would be no problem and (I) would enjoy my time there.”
Bowen, who’s ranked as the No. 54 outside linebacker in the Class of 2017, spent time talking about his future with Muschamp, defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler.
“Coach T-Rob, he loves the way I rush the passer,” Bowen said. “I know they’re going to use my pass-rushing abilities.
“But also talking with coach Hutzler, he was just saying they were going to put me in position to where all of my abilities will be used to the fullest potential.”
New offer out
According to Scout’s Michael Clark, South Carolina offered 2019 wide receiver Elijah Bowick on Monday.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., also scored an offer from Duke.
Virginia Tech and Wake Forest have also offered.
