Dax Hollifield eyes officials, Israel Mukuamu plans return visit

July 05, 2017

Visit almost set

Three-star safety Israel Mukuamu is planning to visit South Carolina on July 21 or 22.

Mukuamu, who transferred from Berkeley (S.C.) High School to Parkway High School (Bossier City, La.) in the winter, will return to his hometown for a commitment announcement on the 24th. He fell out of contact with the Gamecocks after moving to Louisiana, but interest was recently renewed by coach Will Muschamp.

This month’s visit will be his first one to Columbia since last fall, when he was on campus for the East Carolina game on Sept. 17.

“Coach Muschamp called me a few weeks ago and told me that they really wanted me and they want me to give them a chance,” Mukuamu said. “And I’ve been talking to him ever since.”

According to the 247Sports composite, Mukuamu is ranked as the No. 40 safety in the Class of 2018. All eight picks on the 247Sports Crystal Ball are for Florida State.

Indiana and Oklahoma State are also listed as finalists.

Close to deciding

South Carolina made the top 6 for 3-star tight end Tommy Tremble, who could make a commitment before the end of the week. Georgia, Fresno State, Notre Dame, Tennessee and UCLA also made the cut.

A 2018 prospect out of Norcross, Ga., the country’s No. 24 tight end is a Georgia legacy, but Notre Dame has emerged of late. From the outside looking in, it appears to be a two-team race between the Irish and Dawgs.

The Gamecocks hosted him for a visit in June.
