JUCO arrivals
Day 1 of Muschamp Camp began on Tuesday morning with close to 300 participants, several of whom are on South Carolina’s recruiting radar. A couple of those prospects, however, are already out of high school.
D.J. Daniel, a rising sophomore junior college cornerback from Georgia Military Academy, was joined by classmate Devontae Davis, who’s committed to the Gamecocks’ 2019 class. Their former teammate, defensive tackle Jabari Ellis, recently enrolled as a junior at South Carolina.
Daniel, who told SEC Country that he plans to stick around until Wednesday, was offered by Georgia on Monday, shortly after his visit to Athens. Up next is a trip to Kentucky.
In the summer of 2016, when Davis was a rising senior at Silver Bluff High School (Aiken, S.C.), he worked out for defensive line coach Lance Thompson and former offensive line coach Shawn Elliott. Davis is committed to play defensive end for the Gamecocks, so he spent the afternoon going through drills with defensive line coaches.
Peach State preps
Shortly after he walked into the indoor practice facility on Tuesday, 2021 quarterback Aaron McLaughlin (above) received plenty of attention. The prospect from Buford High School lists several offers, including Auburn, Georgia, Michigan and Ole Miss. South Carolina pulled the trigger in January.
McLaughlin was joined by a classmate from Buford, cornerback Jalen Huff, who’s related to South Carolina sophomore defensive back Jamyest Williams. The Gamecocks’ two coordinators, Travaris Robinson and Bryan McClendon, greeted Huff and his father after they arrived.
Kevin Harris, a 5-10, 231-pound running back from Hinesville, Ga., certainly had the attention of running backs coach Bobby Bentley. The 2019 prospect has offers from Air Force, Army, Cornell, Middle Tennessee and Navy.
The contingent of prospects from McEachern High School in Powder Springs made it in, though 2020 running back Jordon Simmons was not among the participants. Simmons plans to return next week so he can work out for Bentley.
South Carolina has offered a couple of his classmates — defensive tackle Jamil Burroughs and wide receiver Javon Baker. The Gamecocks also have offered 2021 wide receiver/athlete Dacari Collins.
Florida flavor
After camp finished in the afternoon, Major Williams, a 2019 3-star cornerback from Dunbar High School in Fort Myers who’s committed to Virginia, tweeted that he picked up an offer.
Chamberlain High School 3-star cornerback John Dixon, who worked out at camp last summer, arrived on Monday with a group of Tampa area prospects, including 4-star safety and former Alabama commit Brendan Gant (Kathleen-Lakeland).
Two 2019 4-star prospects from Wekiva High School in Apopka — outside linebacker Rian Davis and defensive tackle Tyler Davis — also were on hand. Rian spent part of the afternoon working out with the tight ends.
A pair of Class of 2021 prospects tweeted word of their offers on Tuesday — wide receiver Agiye Hall (Plant City-Durant) and athlete Charles Montgomery (Valrico-Bloomingdale).
Anthony Richardson, a 2020 quarterback from Eastside High School in Gainesville, Fla., threw for the Gamecocks’ offensive coaches. The 6-4, 207-pound prospect lists offers from Boston College, Florida and Louisville.

Other states represented
Christian Miller, a 2020 cornerback from Hilton Head (S.C.) High School, was joined by a group of his teammates. So was 2020 wide receiver Lavel Davis, who’s from Woodland High School (Dorchester, S.C.). USF has offered Miller. Georgia Tech was Davis’ first offer, which he received after camp on Saturday.
Three-star running back Jordan Houston, a 2019 prospect from Flint Hill High School (Oakton, Va.), is ranked as the No. 6 all-purpose running back in the Class of 2019. The 5-9, 180-pound prospect has offers from Maryland and Virginia Tech, among others.
