DB RJ Roderick nearly joined Gamecocks Saturday

DB RJ Roderick of Cane Bay returned to USC Saturday for a recruiting and social day with the Gamecock staff. Will Muschamp offered Roderick as a safety late last month and was nearly able to put him on the commitment list Saturday.
“I did get the impulse (to commit) just being around them and just thinking about the amount of opportunities that I have going there and it’s just just like a why wait feeling, but I still am waiting,” Roderick said. “I just hadn’t spoken with my family and a lot of people that are close to me and let them know that’s something I planned on doing. I just wanted to see down and make sure everyone is on the same page before I make a decision like that.”
Roderick said he has talked with his immediate family and is also talking with coaches and a lot of close friends of the family.
“Everybody really likes it and it’s all positive feedback,” he said. “It’s something that I’ve sat down and I’ve really thought about it. It’s not something I’ve made on impulse. It’s something I’ve actually sat down and gone thru every aspect of it and they’re supportive 100 percent and they are ready whenever I am.”
Roderick originally had thought about September for making his decision but the timetable has been sped up.
“Sooner, I can’t really give a time span because I’m not entirely sure myself but it will probably be sooner than it is later,” Roderick said agreeing that the commitment could come this month. As for this week, he said he’s not sure.
Roderick picked up an offer from NC State Monday night and is looking at visiting there this month. He’s also considering visits to Duke, Coastal Carolina and possibly Virginia. East Carolina also has been a factor with him.
