DE Kendal Vickers USC to get defensive end commitment
DE Kendal Vickers (6-3 235) of Havelock, NC formally committed to USC Thursday a day after landing an offer from the Gamecocks. "He made the call to Coach Lawing about 9:40 this morning," Havelock coach Jim Bob Btryant said. "He was excited about the offer, both of his parents are excited. He's a great kid. We took him to a camp there last summer and he did really well." Vickers has played offensive tackle for most of his career and only recently started to play some defensive end for Bryant who doesn't like to have his linemen go both ways. In the last three games, Vickers has 42 tackles and 9 sacks. "His upside is tremendous," the coach said. "He's being recruited as an outside linebacker. He's a tremendous athlete and would be a heck of a tight end. With his athleticism he'll likely be a stud outside linebacker in a 30-45 defense." Vickers becomes the 22nd commitment for the Gamecocks' 2013 class though at this point he's not expected to join the program until 2014. He is likely to spend a semester at Fork Union Prep in Virginia before arriving in Columbia. "He'll be close to qualifying," Vickers said. "He'll probably end up going to a prep school for a semester. But he's got a chance to make it." Vickers comes from the same program as current USC commitment Pharoh Cooper and current USC junior target RB Derrell Scott. And the Gamecocks have offered sophomore receiver Michael Bowman who leads the area in receptions with 47 catches for 680 yards and 7 touchdowns. link: http://www.goupstate...9807/-1/PSPORTS
