3 star DE Taylor Stallworth (6-3 280) of Mobile, AL committed to USC Saturday while on campus for an unofficial visit. Stallworth picked the Gamecocks over Auburn and Mississippi State. Earlier this month he named the Gamecocks as his favorites. "They were the first to offer me," he said then. "They have a great coaching staff. The past five years they have been a great program." Stallworth plays defensive end and outside linebacker. Last season he had 59 tackles with 9 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. Some of his other offers were Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Louisville, Florida State and NC State. Stallworth is USC's 11th commitment for the 2014 class.

The South Carolina football staff picked up commitment number 11 in the 2014 class on Saturday with the pledge of Mobile (Ala.) Murphy defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth.

The 6-foot-2, 290-pounder committed to the Gamecock staff after a visit earlier today.

"I loved their environment and the coaches," Stallworth told GamecockCentral.com. "It felt like home. I've liked South Carolina since when they first offered me."

The facilities on campus impressed the Yellowhammer State product.

"The facilities I liked, especially the academic facilities," he said. "Everything about USC I love."

USC defensive line coach Deke Adams spent some time talking with Stallworth on campus today and the pair had a good conversation.

"He's laid back, a great coach," Stallworth said. "He said the chances of me starting are on me."

Gamecock linebackers coach Kirk Botkin handled the recruitment of Stallworth to USC.

"He's excited for me to be up there and wanted me up there."

According to the three-star prospect, the Gamecock staff discussed him playing some defensive end as well as defensive tackle. He also plays some end and linebacker for his high school team.

Stallworth is happy with his pledge to South Carolina and said it is a strong commitment but is also considering a full slate of official visits in the fall.

"I'm taking officials to Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Minnesota, and South Carolina," he said.

Taylor Stallworth's trip to South Carolina this weekend ended with a commitment and a trip to Wal-Mart.

Stallworth, a 6-foot-2, 290-pound defensive tackle, hit it off with Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks' coaching staff during a visit on Saturday and decided to go ahead and commit.

"I liked the coaches. I liked talking to Steve Spurrier and how he approached me," Stallworth said. "They run the program as a family; everything they do is family oriented. That really made me feel comfortable with them."

A three-star prospect according to both Rivals.com and 247Sports, Stallworth recorded 85 tackles and 10 1/2 sacks in 2012. He chose the Gamecocks over Mississippi State and Minnesota and also had offers from Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Southern Miss and Tulane.

"The biggest thing about him is his work ethic," said Murphy defensive coordinator Tim Jordan, who went with Stallworth on the visit along with two other Panther coaches. "That's what the coach at South Carolina said he liked about him -- he's very aggressive and his motor doesn't stop. He doesn't stop working."

Jordan also described Stallworth as a "model student" who is on track to qualify academically and has "never been in the office."

Stallworth got to meet with freshman Gamecocks linebacker Jonathan Walton, a Daphne native and Bayside Academy alum, on Saturday and toured academic buildings, dorms and the field house. He also met with an instructor in the business school -- his planned major.
"I want to go into business and they had that set out for me," he said. "I felt at home and I felt like this is the best place for me for the next three to four years."

With the campus bookstore closed Saturday, Stallworth and his coaches had to go off-campus to look for South Carolina gear before heading back to Mobile. Jordan said they finally did find some Gamecocks shirts at Wal-Mart, but decided to wait for some better gear after all.

"I think we're just going to order on-line," Jordan said.
