DE Tre Lawson 6-7 250lbs is now officially a bi-coastal recruit. Thursday night he was offered by Southern Cal giving him offers from coast-to-coast. He also has offers from USC, Tennessee, UNLV, Florida State, Illinois, Ole Miss and Kentucky.
Lawson has visited USC twice this month and has also been to Georgia. He’s going to Florida State this weekend, Clemson March 5th and Georgia Tech later in March. He also wants to see Tennessee.
USC has jumped on Lawson hard and had him in for junior day earlier in the month and then again last Saturday for an unofficial visit.
“I really like them and they really like me,” Lawson said. “They seem like they want me and need me to be a part of their program. The whole staff, including Coach Muschamp, are very eager to talk to me and for me to go down there. If it was up to them I’d be down there every weekend. I really like them. I’m not going to put them ahead of anyone else but I really like them and they really want me down there. They definitely are in the main pool of who I want to go to.”
Lawson said that main pool consists of all the offering schools. Lawson added that the Gamecocks have spelled out for him how they would use him in their defense.
“They were like primarily as a defensive end but if I put on 30 pounds and get stronger I can play D-tackle,” he said. “I played eight of my 12 games at tackle and only played four at defensive end. I played both, and I played offensive tackle. They mainly are trying to get me at D-end.”
Lawson has not been offered by Clemson but they Tigers do have interest in him and he’s been in touch with recruiter Mike Reed.
“He said when I come down there he wants it to be a more personalized visit and that’s why I didn’t go to their junior day,” Lawson said. “They are very enthusiastic to talk to and they are coming off playing in the national title game so for them to give me the time of day is pretty cool.”
Lawson is uncertain when he’ll make his decision. It could come prior to his season or during it. And he said he has no preference between staying in state or leaving the state.
Last season Lawson totaled 76 tackles with 18 for loss and 12 sacks.
