December to-do list for Will Muschamp’s Gamecocks

The South Carolina recruiting push toward the first 2018 signing day is already underway this week, and the Gamecocks are off to a strong start.
SEC Country unveils its recruiting to-do list for coach Will Muschamp for the month of December.
First, here’s a look at how he and the Gamecocks did last month:
Now that Horn and Mukuamu are up for grabs, it’s time for Muschamp and Co. to complete the flip. It’s time to hustle for Mukuamu, who’s going to graduate in December from Parkway High School in Bossier City, La. Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson will see him on Monday.
Horn (Alpharetta, Ga.) returned to South Carolina for the Clemson game, about 24 hours before he pulled the plug on his commitment to Tennessee.
The Gamecocks are heavily favored for both on the 247Sports Crystal Ball.
2. Spatula’s back out
Four-star cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) remains committed to Florida State, but the state of the coaching staff in Tallahassee has him on the brink of de-committing, like so many of the Seminoles 2018 pledges. Muschamp and Robinson saw him on Thursday.
South Carolina coaches have also seen 3-star defensive end Jarrett Jackson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) this week. Jackson remains committed to Louisville, but the Gamecocks are firmly in position to land a flip. He’s a midyear enrollee.
Three-star junior college defensive end Dorian Gerald (Florence, S.C.) lists himself as a soft commitment to Tennessee, but other schools are in the mix, including South Carolina to a degree.
3. Close strong
With upward of 12 commitments set to enroll in January, a good chunk of South Carolina’s 2018 class will be accounted for by the time the calendar flips to 2018. That will help the Gamecocks close strong in the haul.
A strong close would include a commitment from Channing Tindall, who’s planning to make a decision in December. But he’s pushed back every other commitment date, so don’t be surprised if that happens again this month.
Reeling in Mukuamu and Jackson before the end of the signing period (Dec. 20-22) would also qualify, even if Tindall doesn’t hop on board. Of course, Samuel’s out there. Horn, too.
And we haven’t even mentioned 4-star defensive tackle Rick Sandidge (Concord, N.C.).

- Snap the streak: South Carolina has yet to snap the streak of no 2018 commitments. Four-star wide receiver Josh Vann, who jumped on board in August, is the most recent edition to the class. But the Gamecocks are in position to land some other 2018 prospects.
- Spatula’s out: Things are trending in the right direction. Four-star cornerback Jaycee Horn is no longer committed to Tennessee. Three-star defensive back Israel Mukuamu isn’t committed to Florida State. South Carolina is in strong position for both.
