Decision day arrives for top Gamecocks target Jamyest Williams
August 26, 2017
South Carolina has had a very successful month on the recruiting trail, and the Gamecocks could land their biggest piece of the class yet this weekend.
Grayson High (Ga.) four-star cornerback Jamyest Williams will commit during a ceremony at his school’s auditorium at 3 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the school’s game against IMG Academy Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and the network will show a clip of Williams’ commitment ceremony during the game.
Williams will not meet with the media to discuss his commitment until after Saturday’s game because his coach, Jeff Herron, wants him focused on IMG Academy.
Williams is the No. 8 cornerback in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and the No. 5 player in Georgia.
He holds offers from Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Michigan and several other schools.
If Williams chooses South Carolina, as the 247Sports Crystal Ball feature predicts, he would be the fourth four-star commit for USC this month, joining Hamsah Nasirildeen, M.J. Webband T.J. Moore.
Ryan Bartow, a national recruiting insider for 247Sports, has been impressed by what USC’s staff has done recently. Bartow said more good news could be coming for the Gamecocks when the state’s top prospect from Wando High announces next month.
“Their run for four-star guys is not done here. September 11th, they’re in really good position to land OrTre Smith, who is ranked as the top prospect in South Carolina,” Bartow said. “South Carolina can sell earlier playing time given that roster that the staff inherited. That gives kids a chance to get on the field earlier, and that’s a big selling point with a lot of these kids.”
