Decision looming in coaching search? December 5th UPDATE)

Scratch Scott Satterfield. Saturday afternoon Cameron Teague of the Louisville Courier-Journal quoted Satterfield as saying he was staying with the Cardinals. His story is behind the paper’s paywall but here is the Tweet from Teague:

BREAKING: Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield tells the Courier Journal he is staying at Louisville and is not going to South Carolina.

"I have no intention of leaving Louisville,” Satterfield told me. https://t.co/rizRJdRkew

Tanner interviewed Satterfield Friday, flying to Bowling Green, KY for the meeting, and was scheduled to interview Louisiana coach Billy Napier today in Louisiana. Tanner is to meet tonight with university president Bob Caslen, and via Zoom with three board members. A decision could come from that meeting. With Satterfield out, Oklahoma assistant head coach Shane Beamer and Napier appear to be the top two. A source told us this morning Beamer has support from several board members. We also have been told some big financial backers of the program also support Beamer. But, the Napier interview could change all that. Tanner also has had confirmed interviews with Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell, Florida offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and Houston Texas outside linebackers coach Chris Rumph.

Napier has lost some of the luster from many because of that one call last night. The Beamer hire, if it happens, is a huge question mark until he announces his coordinators.  Good coordinators- like for example Riley and Mason or Bobo and Mason - means all Beamer has to do is steer the ship and recruit, which we know he can do. I’m happy with either, provided Beamer can bring grade A coordinator talent.

Don’t look now Chadwell’s team is playing really well.   Hope we don’t regret not hiring this guy

The beamer hire is sounding a lot like the cwm hire.

If he gets the right coordinator, all he'll need to do is recruit...

The best coaching candidates don't want to come here...

There's not much evidence that he can succeed, but let's hope...

I'm just hoping I'm wrong this time.

I think Beamer has the potential to be better than muschamp ever was going to be here.

I agree. Champ was set in his failing ways and too arrogant to change. That said, there are plenty of parallels with his the search is going

I wonder if they really went for some experienced coaches or just through the motions. Beamer was the heir apparent from the outset and now appears to be the hire.

Let's hope they made the right decision.
