Defense, Dowdle Lead South Carolina to 24-7 Win Over Kentucky With Videos, Gallery, Box Score & More

Sept. 29, 2019

Dowdle and Feaster, the Gamecocks' two senior tailbacks, both ran for more than 100 yards and accounted for three touchdowns as South Carolina (2-3, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) snapped a five-game series losing streak to Kentucky with a 24-7 victory Saturday night. (VIEW ARTICLE)

I feel we have the makings for a very balanced offensive attack, from both the pass and the run. Last night it was the run game that carried the offense, but I feel that we still need to work both the run game in even when the passing game is going strong, and the pass game when the run game is going strong. Keep both facets limbered up and as capable of producing, should opponents key on any one of them.

Next week we'll have a bye, while our next opponent Georgia - who had their first bye this past weekend - takes on Tennessee. Through 4 games thus far, UGA has yet to allow a rushing touchdown from anyone, and has the top rushing defense in the SEC. Tennessee currently has the fewest rushing TDs in the SEC, with only 3, so UGA may still hold that distinction when the Gamecocks travel to Athens October 12th.

So we need to have both our passing and rushing offenses at their best for them. It's another opponent like Alabama, but on the road this time, so we'll have our work cut out for us....
