The school to beat for 4 star DB Jaquan Johnson 5'10" 172lbs is Miami.
Miami is up and coming and has a young team,” Johnson said. “I’d have a shot to play right away. It’s close to home so my family could come see me. I have a close bond with the coaches.”
Florida defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson recruits Dade County for the Gators.
“He’s still on me,” Johnson said of Robinson. “He’s telling me that my situation would be the best if I came there. He keeps pounding me and really wants me.”
Johnson just got back from a trip to South Carolina on Saturday.
He took in a scrimmage, toured the weight room and locker room and met in the secondary positional group room for film review before meeting with Steve Spurrier.
“Coach Spurrier told me to keep (the Gamecocks) in mind,” Johnson said. “He wants me bad. I also got with cornerback Chris Lammons from Plantation, Fla. and hung out with him some, too. He took me on a tour of campus.”
Johnson’s favorite part of the visit was seeing how the team responded in the scrimmage.
His grandmother stays 10 miles down the road from Columbia, South Carolina.
“She’s been there for about 20 years,” Johnson said. “Her husband is a big Gamecocks fan.”
Next up will be official visits. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder hopes to take officials to Louisville, LSU and Alabama.
“I’ll decide when the time is right,” Johnson said. “It should be this fall because I’m an early enrollee.”
