Class of 2014 four-star defensive tackle Dexter Wideman (Saluda/Saluda) remains committed to Florida State, but the 6-foot-4, 255-pounder says FSU and South Carolina are still both tied at the top in the race for his services.

South Carolina quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus and Florida State running backs coach Jay Graham both visited Wideman this week with Mangus stopping by Friday and Graham on Thursday.

South Carolina and Florida State, the only two programs still recruiting Wideman, have similar pitches to him.

"That they really want me and keep working hard and keep my grades coming up," Wideman said Saturday at the sign-in for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

To the surprise of many, Wideman, 247Sports' No. 12 defensive tackle, committed to Florida State in July.

"They've got a really good program, as you can see, really good coaching." Wideman said of the Seminoles. "When I went up there for an unofficial I had a very good time."

Wideman, who is ranked the No. 157 overall prospect and No. 5 prospect in South Carolina by 247Sports, went to most of the Gamecocks' home games this season.

"They always have a big crowd," Wideman said. "It's a great place to play at and they have really good coaches too."

Wideman plans to officially visit South Carolina on Jan. 17 and he thinks a Florida State official will come on Jan. 31.

"I'm going to make sure that I feel at home and I'm going to make sure that I fit in with the program and with the defense," Wideman said. "And just make sure that I'm going to play good with the team."

It's been thought that Wideman would make a decision at the Under Armour All-America game, but he says he'll probably wait until after taking his officials.

There has been plenty of speculation that Wideman could be a prep or JUCO placement, but he says he's been working hard in the class room to qualify.

"I don't think I'm going to have to go that route," Wideman said.

With a rating of 0.9215 in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Wideman is ranked the No. 17 defensive tackle and No. 187 overall prospect. He's also ranked the No. 5 prospect in South Carolina.
