Dennis Daley sets another official; local lineman watches bowl practiceDec. 22, 2016
Daley to visit Georgia StateSouth Carolina offensive tackle commitment Dennis Daley will take an official visit to Georgia State in January.
Daley, who was placed at Georgia Military Academy after committing to South Carolina, confirmed the official visit plans to SEC Country on Wednesday night, after Wes Mitchell of GamecockCentral first reported the news.
“I just want to see what’s going on,” Daley said. “I’m still solid with USC, though.”
Georgia State is now coached by former South Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott, who served as Daley’s primary recruiter when he still was on staff in Columbia.
Elliott communicates with Daley about the same things he did as an assistant for the Gamecocks.
“Just touching base,” Daley said.
South Carolina hosted the Ridge View High School (Columbia, S.C.) product for an official visit earlier this fall.
Chapin OL sees Carolina againChapin (S.C.) High School offensive lineman Hank Manos visited South Carolina on Monday, to watch bowl practice.
Because the NCAA calendar is in the dead period, the 6-foot-4, 275-pound center-guard couldn’t speak with any of the coaches. However, it didn’t detract from the experience.
“It was great. Really enjoyed watching practice,” Manos said. “Very organized and focused.”
“This was my fourth visit to USC, though — camp, SpursUp Cookout and Missouri game,” Manos added. “I have mostly had contact with coach (Kurt) Roper and had a lot of contact with coach (Shawn) Elliott before he took the job at Georgia State.”
Roper has had good things to say about him.
“He likes my build, my feet and my motor,” Manos said. “He also likes the fact that I wrestle since it complements my football skills. He is happy with my move from guard to center this year and likes me at that position.”
Manos has established himself as the top-ranked heavyweight wrestler in the state’s 4A classification.
As for the position switch to center, Manos thinks it’s been a good move.
“It gives me an opportunity to have more responsibility and leadership,” he said. “My position coach at Chapin was a center and he helped me tremendously in the adjustment to the new role. I feel like I could play either center or guard at the next level, so that helps me in the process.”
Manos has also visited Vanderbilt, Appalachian State, Middle Tennessee, Western Carolina and Coastal Carolina.
New 2018 QB to knowAccording to Chris Laney, the offensive coordinator at Divine Child Day High School in Dearborn, Mich., Roper will visit the school next month.
The Gamecocks offensive coordinator wants to evaluate 3-star quarterback Theo Day, the No. 19-ranked pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2018. Day has offers from Kentucky, Akron, Central Michigan and Toledo.
Day is listed at 6-foot-5, 197 pounds.
