Even when you move beyond the potential dynamic defensive end duo of Devin Taylor and Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina has the potential to possess one of the deepest defensive lines anywhere.

Of course, much of that will depend on how a number of defensive tackles perform this spring.

Developing quality depth in the interior of the USC defensive front is one of Lorenzo Ward’s chief goals over the next month.

With Kelcy Quarles locked in at one DT spot, how deep that depth truly is will depend on the progress made by Byron Jerideau, J.T Surratt, Gerald Dixon, Jr. and Phillip Dukes during the spring.

“That’s where we have to make sure we get some depth,” Ward told 107.5 FM The Game recently. “We knew losing Travian (Robertson) would be big for us. Byron Jerideau had a great off-season from what I understand. He looks quick. He had a good practice. J.T. Surratt has some experience, but he hasn’t played a lot in games. But he has been going through practice with Brad (Lawing). We’re excited to see what he and Phillip Dukes can do inside. We definitely have to develop some depth inside at the tackle spot. Hopefully, this spring will allow us to do that.”
