Thinking hard about the Gamecock FB dumpster fire. If not offer close. Tanner just feel he has stubbed his toe a few times. How much blame does he get or think he deserves a pat on the back Good job?

I don't know all of the inner workings of the program, but my impression is this: Muschamp left us with a festering attitude problem of selfishness, but he did leave more talent, and I believe he set up a good infrastructure for recruiting, so I'd say he left us better off than Spurrier.  The football ops building is a big deal, but that isn't here because of Muschamp, that would have happened regardless of the coach.  Regardless of this, I have fond memories of Spurrier, and Muschamp has left a bad taste in my mouth.  If I am being logical though, I believe that the shortcomings of Muschamp will be much more quickly righted by CSB, than the damage done by Spurrier's lack of interest in the latter part of his tenure.

Spurrier's tainted program is overshadowed by his 3 11 win seasons.

Muschamp came nowhere close to that level and left us with crap. I dont know if the talent is better, but its hard to compare when Muschamp's teams had so many injuries. We could have all the talent in the world, but if they dont see the field consistently then it doesnt matter. Hopefully Beamer can capitalize on this "talent" or whats left of it.

Cockyandproud is right - talent is better, and the bad attitude will dissipate quickly if we start finding some success.

Muschamp's problems were schemes - talent development - motivation - personnel decisions (players and coaches) - and game management.

Remember that Muschamp recruited well at Florida - so well that an average coach (McElwain) won two SEC East titles with Muschamp's recruits. If Beamer is an improvement over Muschamp with the problems listed above, there is no reason not to expect immediate improvement,

Plus, this is a unique environment  due to Covid - with the extra year of eligibility and not having to sit out a year for undergrad transfers. Since we are an SEC team with first-rate facilities, we will be able to bring in some really good players from smaller programs (even non-SEC Power Five schools) - and keep some of our key players that would have been lost to graduation.

As an Assistant Head Coach and former recruiting coordinator - with connections to programs and conferences around the nation (SEC, Big Howevermany Conference, All Cupcake Conference) - Beamer should have the knowledge and connections to upgrade the team in the offseason - and not just by recruiting.
Agreed. Tanner should have never convinced SOS to stay after he wanted to retire. That never goes well and ended up with some pretty big talent holes. This time Tanner pulled the gun on getting ride of WM early enough that we only lost one recruiting class (this one).

This left us much better off now than when SOS left. For example: starting a walk on QB (then) vs trying to decide which 4 star QB to start (now).

Muschump was supposed to be a great recruiter but his only 9 win season was with Spurrier's players.  Cleaning house now may very well cause some short term pain but is needed if we want to get back to winning.

If you were starting a new HBC position would you rather turn to perry orth or luke doty/rh3?
DBs? LBs? WRs?

Jammie Robinson is now leaving. How many DBs is that now?

How many pts did these guys give up this year?

Just going to say Beamer and company have a lot of hard work ahead. Hopefully we will see more team of a team that will back each other up. Gamecocks will have a hard time matching up next year with any teams next year. So if they are going to win will need to play beyond the talent level and the only way to accomplish is to play as one. So got to get to work and get the young men to believe in the system.

Might be alone on this but hope most of the current staff will be gone I want to see new DC and OC. Only one for me from this staff is Shaw.

I'm not arguing that we're in great shape, just that we're in better shape than we were after SOS. Any team would be happy to have a solid RB and a promising QB or QBs. We did not have that after SOS left.

Disagree.

You can have the best DL'S but you need LB and secondary that is just the defense. Offense same boat OL, WR. Easy to stop the run if you have no one to throw to. Just my. :twocents:  I see no upside to keeping any staff besides Shaw again just my.  :twocents:  I'm about brock now with my  :twocents:

It's hard to say where the dividing line is between coach and player when it comes to poor performance unless you're a fly on the wall in the same room with them.

All I know is the current combination of players and coaches didn't work out.

However, I am also confident Beamer will make the right choices with both.

Agree with both of these points.

The problems will not be fixed overnight. Will take time and players to fill major holes. Gamecocks will struggle to just to get to 500 in 2021. No easy fixes here. Just a lot of hard work ahead.
