Yeah I saw a breakdown of his wins and losses as a head coach. I think the implication was that his wins weren't exactly impressive. I don't know about that, but I do know that this year his team took down Iowa State, and played Coastal close. Last year he also came within 10 points against Miss St., took down Freeze at Liberty, and Chadwell at Coastal. More importantly, his squad at La-La has shown consistent improvement since he took over, which is much more than anyone can say about us and our previous staff.

I'd be interested to see who he brings with him assuming he gets the job here.

I'm hoping to watch this game tonight too. I've got it DVR'd

Idk much about Napier except his bio and the stuff I've read here so it'll be interesting to watch him call a game and learn about him.

If I can tell his tendencies by the end of one game, I dont want him. Lol

Off topic, but it blew my mind how predictable spurriers offense was to me after watching for years, but somehow other coaches couldn't keep up. Lol.

Greens in Greenville used to carry it. Used to buy it all the time. but it's been 10 years.
Yeah I came back from Germany about 5 years ago, looking for that stuff. I searched high and low with no luck. I eventually ran into a guy who works for one of the major distributors for this area, and he told me then that they just stopped receiving it for some reason. The last time I did a serious search for it, the closest store I could find with it was in Jersey, which is just a little too far for a beer run.

And, he did tonight.  Good game.  Interesting play call to take a safety after special teams had a tough night. It paid off.
It worked out for  him, he got the win.  But IMHO, I thought it was the wrong call.  He gained about 35 yards of real estate by taking the safety and kicking from where the ball would be placed if he didn't make the 4rth down attempt -- about the same amount of yards that App St would not have to cover to have a reasonable shot at a game tying field goal attempt.  So there was no real net yardage gained, BUT he completely eliminates the chance for ending the game by converting the 4th and two.  Plus if had run a play, even if he didn't make it, App St has to burn that final TO to stop the clock and they actually have to score a TD instead of just needing a FG to tie the game.

I'm fine with Napier not punting...three bad snaps already in the game, but you got to go for the two yards there, right?

That was an interesting call. I didn't watch the game and just heard about the safety. I guess my take is that they won the game so all the "if, ands and buts" don't really matter.

That saftey was a dumb-ass call, and the only reason they won after that was because App St. shanked the FG. What a bone head.

I thought for a minute, based on the title, you were going to tell me that Napier once played professional baseball on national pancake day.  :smiley-with-chicken-emoticonsmall:

Some reasons why the safety was the right call.

1.) It worked.

2.)The long snapper was playing the worst game of his career in very difficult conditions and was obviously rattled. The odds of messing up were somewhere around 60% by my guestimation.

3.) There is a school of thought in football that it is better to be up by 4 plus points going into a final drive like that, but there is also a theory that leading by exactly a field doesn't necessarily decrease your chances of winning. Why? Because now the offense has their mind set on what is necessary to extend the game and they aren't looking to the end zone. They take their time more and are slightly less aggressive. They play with the fg "in their back pocket" and often never sniff the endzone because of it. If they move the ball into fg territory, The fg attempt comes its own odds and last night, in those conditions chances of making the kicker were much lower than norma. Even If they make it, no problem... go prove you're the better team in OT. I feel like Napier played the odds, which I personally like, but it comes from a different school of thought than most are used to.

4.) He trusted his defense, that played pretty well overall, to keep them out of the end zone.

With that said, I think I would have definitely ran the ball on third down. If I didnt get the first or within half a yard, I'd have to call on my qb to pooch punt it over the safety's head. No way would I opt for a traditional punt though.

I fully expected the pooch punt last night, but taking the safety made as much, if not more sense.
