Dillon OT Josiah Thompson Sets His Announcement Date

SPORTSTALK / March 21, 2023

1679436143525.pngDillon High School head coach Kelvin Roller put the word out Tuesday morning that his star offensive tackle Josiah Thompson plans to announce his college commitment at the school auditorium on April 11th at 9:00 AM. Thompson is viewed as one of the top players in the country at his position for the 2024 class. He tweeted on Saturday that he had made his decision on a college.

“They’re a close knit family and they’re just trying to get his process behind so he can focus on his high school team and his high school senior year,” Roller said Tuesday morning. “Hopefully with this decision he’ll be a little bit more relaxed and ready to go. I don’t know if bombarded is the right word to say, but he’s had a lot of calls and a lot of visits and all that kind of thing. He’s just ready to get focused on his senior year so he can have as good a senior year he can possibly have.”

Thompson carried a top list of USC, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Miami and Florida. He went to junior days in January at USC and Clemson and returned to USC to watch a spring practice March 14th. He was not at USC Saturday when the Gamecocks hosted several of their top targets.

Roller said from what he’s observed of Thompson during the recruiting process, he was looking for a program where he would be comfortable and have an opportunity to play.

“I think relationships with coaches are very important to him,” Roller said. “I think that’s the main thing, just the relationships that some of the coaches built with him, and where they see him fitting in on their roster, that type deal. He’s such a good kid.”

Thompson has had the strongest connections with USC over the last several years. He said the Gamecocks have been recruiting him since his freshman season. Plus, his father once was a walk-on offensive lineman with the Gamecocks during the Brad Scott era.
