Freshman quarterback Avery McCall threw three first half touchdown passes and the Dillon defense shutout Fairfield Central in the second half as the Wildcats won the 2A-Division 1 state championship 21-6 Friday night at Benedict College.

McCall had scoring passes of 23 yards, 33 yards and 18 yards to three different receivers to spark the Wildcats to a 21-6 halftime lead. Neither team scored in the second half though both had their chances. Fairfield was stopped on downs at the Dillon 21 and the Dillon 17 in the third quarter. And the Wildcats lost fumbles at the Fairfield three and nine in the fourth quarter.

McCall was 12-18 for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Anthony Blue was a major part of the offense as well rushing for 202 yards on 24 carries. Fairfield quarterback DeAndre Belton passed for 94 yards but threw three interceptions. He also rushed for 68 yards.

It’s the third state championship for Dillon which finishes the season at 13-1. Fairfield Central finishes at 11-3.
