DISCUSSION GAME WEEK 6: Talking Gamecocks vs. Bulldogs  Saturday Kick - Off  "High Noon"

Oct. 07, 2019

Well it is time to face off with border rival Georgia Saturday at high noon. The way  standings are as off today. The Gamecocks have and will play No. 1, 2 and 3. This week will be number 3 Georgia leaving only No. 2 Clemson left to play to finish out the  top three in the nation. The Gamecocks will have their hands full down in Athens facing a fierce defense and a fast and powerful offense.

Gamecocks at 2-3 have improved, but most fans thinking entering this game they would be 4-1 or at the least 3-2. But as we all know it has not panned out that way. A win here would surely put an nice spin heading into the final half of the season. My questions are how can the Gamecocks upset No. 3 Georgia team in there own back yard? Can this team be capable of the task that is awaiting them Saturday?  The Gamecocks defense their offense what will they need to do? OK. Fanatics let’s see your responses to the following questions and more.

GO COCKS BEAT GEORGIA!!!

I don't think we have a chance at beating UGA but hope that we can get a few long drives going to limit the bloodletting. Let's also hope that Kirby has mercy on his fellow alum (Muschamp and BMac) Saturday night and not run up the score.

We will need our Defense to limit the explosive plays and create a couple of turnovers. I expect our offense to hold its own with our new found running game and some smart and well timed passes. We have nothing to lose. We have had an extra week to prepare. UGA has everything to lose (National Championship). If we can play loose and get some good bounces it would be an exciting victory.

otherwise it could get ugly

We will need to be creative to get any sort of pressure vs that massive OL.   Not optimistic but very hopeful.   With the depth they have teams tend to just wear down.

I don't expect to come out with a win, but I'm holding out hope that we can keep it close and maybe pull out some late minute magic. Defense and running the ball are our best chances imo. Don't abandon the run too early like we've done in the past.

Kinlaw,Wonum, Engabare and Sterling have developed into a solid group....hopefully they can get pressure on Fromm...if our improved linebackers can make good open field tackles and limit the explosive plays.

On offense.....Running the ball and controlling the time of possession will help to keep our defense fresh enough for four quarters. The thing that gives me hope is that Tenn Vols hung with them in the first half. If we can play a solid 4 quarters we have a chance.

Two key stats heading into the game:

The UGA OL has yet to allow the first sack of a UGA QB, the last standing FBS team to do so;

The UGA DL has yet to allow the first rushing touchdown against them this season, again the last FBS team to do so....

Well lets break out the wrecking ball ! If we can keep pressure on Fromm and get him out of his "comfort zone" I don't care if we don't get sacks. ....and if we need to get passing TDs instead of rushing TDs....I'll take it

They can keep those stats....the stat I would like to see the Garnet and Black take away....is the undefeated stat

Jawja is going to lean on us with their offensive line for sure. They will also take a few shots down field early because we will be stacking the box most of the time. Our DBs are going to have to play a lot of man defense on Jawja's WRs so they better be ready. Hard for me to find a way we beat them but if we can run the ball we could make them a little nervous.

I hope I'm wrong, but I dont expect this to be close. Maybe for the first quarter, There is the talent gap and Smart is a better coach.

we have to take something away while at the same time not giving them easy yards.  last year it seemed like pre snap we made it easy on them to decide if they were going to run up the middle due to a small box or throw a wr screen on the perimeter because it was 2 on 1 outside with our safety 15 yards away and after the catch its 1 on 1 in space to prevent a td.  the corners have to be more physical this year and they will be, but i also think you have to move the safeties up some as well as not just giving away that pass to try and force them into a mistake down the field rather than giving up easy completions.

we'll see how much the defense has improved or if we're in for a repeat of last year where all georgia and florida had to do was run and throw wr screens all the way down the field.  it will be disheartening if it happens again because i think our defense is good enough to force fromm and their wr's to make some plays down the field to win.

Our corners will need to play the man and the ball. Fromm will throw it down the field and let their guys go get it. If we look for the ball we can make some plays.
