In a few day's the 2018 class will be in the books which as of now looks like a very good class. Now time to move on to the 2019 kids. With early signings pointing to what could be one of the best in the past 5 years. Below is the recruiting commits as of today. Great start for 2019

Current 2019 commitments

4* WR Jamario Holley
Our latest commitment in this class. His academic situation is reminiscent of Bryce Thompson of this year's class ie Holley has wanted to commit for a while but wasn't green lighted until it improved. His game had been compared to Shi smith, great hands and speed.

4* DE Rodricus Fitten
BMac's latest guy out of Atlanta. He's got a great first step, high motor and Comes down hill on the tackle. He plays DE in a 3-4 scheme in high school and I believe the true DE position is what he was recruited to play, as opposed to buck. Out of hs, he and Enagbare have the most impressive tape of the DEs we've gotten.

3* OT Mark Fox
Eric wofford is an exceptional recruiter. Identifies his guts and gets them to commit early, often before most even know they're on the radar. Fox is a big OT with several big time offers who committed the day after he got offered.

3*OG Vincent Murphy
Wolf at it again. Holy offer list Batman. This guy has offers from 20+ schools including everyone in the east but uga. Did I mention he plays at powerhouse st Thomas Aquinas? No, I didn't, but he does. They don't turn out scrubs down there. with a decent camp circuit this summer, this guy has 4* bump written all over him.

3*ILB Ahdarrious Gee
Prototypical muschamp player. His attitude on the field reminds me of the other ilb we have on The team in Brunson and Louis. constantly looking for contract. He plays olb right now. He was the GA defensive player of the year for 3A ball... as a sophomore. Idk how he doesn't have more offers other than he is at a smaller school and we got the commit early. He was our first 2019 commit and pulled the trigger last July. Only team he's visited besides us is GT.

3*OT Jaylen Nichols
Don't have a lot on this guy. Only 2 offers, no film. However, I have heard that wolf is very high on him and then there's the canned "you can't coach a guy to be 6-5 300lb." I could sit here and say that this could go the Benson route, however, a scary sidenote is, after this year, our senior most tackles on the team would be going into their redshirt sophomore years.

NR DE devontae Davis
Davis was one of if not the best dl in the state but needed tons of work academically. Boom has shown that if there's not significant chance for qualifying he won't take the commitment and if you're a juco that better happen in time for EE.

Recruiting Class 2019

Shaping up nicely especially with the early prediction the Gamecocks may get that 5* DE from Hannah and possibly 5* athlete Crouch...

One major difference in this staff as opposed to previous staffs when they lose a recruit they normally replace them with another 4 or high 3 star. Also, Mullins was not even on the radar screen a month ago and our staff knew about him. Hard work and evaluations leaving no stone unturned has never been seen around here before.

One particular note about losing 2019 WDE prospect Savion Jackson to NC State: while Jackson is a very talented prospect and I would have loved to have him added to our 2019 class, I am not chewing my teeth over losing him in the slightest. USC's best success under Spurrier - the 11-win seasons - were teams that had ferocious DLs that came at opposing offenses in waves, and had opposing QBs looking over their shoulders and opposing OLs quitting in mid-game. One huge reason for the program's decline at the end of Spurrier, and what Coach Muschamp has had to rebuild, was the depth and talent at DL withered up.

Now we're seeing CWM and staff start building that depth back with great talent evaluations in under-rated players like Wonnum, Kinlaw, Thomas, Fennell, etc. and then ramping up the talent levels with Sandidge, Webb, Pickens, Belk, Anderson, etc. Before too long we'll be back to those terrorizing DLs we had in the glory years.

So why am I not sweating losing on a DL talent like Jackson? Because of the 2020 class: the top 5 rated in-state prospects for the next cycle are all 4* or higher, with 2 of them 5* rated. And they are all five DL prospects. One of them have already committed to the up northerly school, and we won't factor with him, but the others we'll all have strong chances to add to our roster, especially with another strong season this season with 9+ wins and possibly a top 25 final ranking.

So, it's probably already going to be a battle for the staff to get as many of those kids into the program, with the DL depth we've already compiled. We'll most likely lose Wonnum and Kinlaw after this season to the NFL, but that's it, unless someone else blows up. No one else at the position are seniors. But in any case, if the staff will work to add to the talent depth along the DL, they'll have plenty of quality options in our own backyard for 2020. So I'm OK with Jackson choosing NC St.....

Would have loved to see him in Garnet but the Gamecocks have others to go after and feel good this staff will land them.

Pretty crazy SEC recruiting rankings as of today.

The perception of this blows my mind...

We're 18th in the country (not bad, progressing, getting some key position needs, etc.)

We're 9th in the SEC (feels like the mountain got steeper)

We're 3rd in the East behind Georgia and Tennessee so at least four teams in the East are below us.

Here's the craziest stat of all of this...the ENTIRE SEC West is ranked in the top 19.

Even Ole Miss and Arkansas are ahead of us. Just crazy and something to think about for some people saying the pendulum is swinging back towards the East. It's more about the entire SEC is getting stronger.

1. Bama
2. A&M
3. Georgia
5. LSU
11. Auburn
15. Tennessee
16. Arkansas
17. Ole Miss
18. South Carolina
19. Miss St.
24. Florida

Kentucky (31), Missouri (45), Vanderbilt (51)

USC Recruiting: #8 in Country? Potentially

As it stands today: South Carolina has the #20 recruiting class nationally but it has the potential to jump all the way to #8 if Jamel Cook and Josh Belk (who count against the 2019 class) were factored in as well as landing three top targets. Here's how:

Add:
Jamel Cook: 99th nationally (out of high school)
Josh Belk: 102nd nationally (out of high school)

Class calculator: 247.73 - 13th nationally

Add:
Jaquaze Sorrells: 167th nationally

Class calculator: 253.69 - 10th nationally

Add:
Chris Steele: 40th nationally
Jaydon Hill: 279th nationally

Class calculator: 266.59 - 8th nationally

(1) It will be a major feat (but not impossible) to land Steele, Hill, and Sorrells (2) Other teams will continue to sign players thus boosting their score too. However, the point is that South Carolina recruiting could be on the cusp of a top ten recruiting class (especially with other players we have in the mix, too) - something that's only been done once before (2007).
