The decision making process for DL[COLOR= rgb(178, 34, 34)] Naquan Jones [/COLOR]6'4 283lbs of Evanston, IL is going to go right down to the wire.
Scheduled to announce his choice at his school Monday at 3:00 PM Eastern, Jones said Sunday night he’s not made the decision and he might go right up to the end before he knows. He’s down to USC, Michigan State and Florida.
“It’s tough,” Jones said. “It’s just where I feel most comfortable, who can support me the best academically and where I feel at home.”
Jones said he’s been discussing his decision with his parents and mentors. One of his mentors is a Myrtle Beach native and has been encouraging him to give the Gamecocks a good look.
“He’s supportive of wherever I go but he said that it’s not that often a kid from the Midwest gets an SEC offer and should take advantage of that,” Jones said.
Jones and his mentor visited USC in February and since that point the Gamecocks have been strong with him. He’s been in touch with recruiters Deke Adams, Steve Spurrier Jr. and Everette Sands. He has been talking to recruiters from the other schools as well including a recent conversation with Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio.
None of the three was sticking out as of Sunday night. Jones said he will notify the schools of his decision in advance of the announcement but the two who get the bad news won’t be finished with Jones. He plans to take official visits in the fall and USC, Michigan State and Florida each will receive one.
