This sounds like a team in trouble just what the doctor calls for to get over the Gator blues.......
Starting quarterback Tyler Bray will be benched in favor of backup Justin Worley if he continues to throw interceptions, Tennessee coach Derek Dooley said today during his weekly press conference.
“If he’s loose with the football, he’s coming out of the game and we’re going to play Justin,” Dooley said. “I told him that.”
Bray threw two interceptions in Tennessee’s 44-13 loss to Alabama on Saturday. The Vols (3-4, 0-4 SEC) play No. 17 South Carolina (6-2, 4-2) on Saturday (TV: ESPN, noon).
Dooley strongly criticized Bray for failing to meet with reporters after the Alabama loss, saying his quarterback needs to “man up.”
“That’s unacceptable in our program,” Dooley said. “There’s no defense for that type of behavior.”
Dooley was also asked about an Internet report that he had offered to resign after the 2011 season.
Dooley called the report “absurd” and said “I’d be a real dumbass to do that.”
As for his own future, Dooley said he understands why fans are upset.
“They should be,” he said. “We’re not meeting expectations. There’s no point in defending it. We just need to play better.”
