DT Nnamdi Ogboko set for official visit with Gamecocks this month

Robertson presented a solid and powerful punch (6-4 305) for the defensive line in his time. He is now recruiting a prospect of similar dimensions in DT Nnamdi Ogboko (6-5 320) of Garner, NC. Ogbogo was offered by former USC defensive tackles coach Jimmy Lindsey in mid-April, and Robertson picked up on Ogbogo where his predecessor left off.

‘I like the new D-line coach, Coach Robertson,” Ogboko said. “I like how he has a similar body type as me, and he has the same playing experience as me, so I like that. He would know how it would feel for somebody my size to play, because he is like my size.”

The Gamecocks have some other built-in advantages when it comes to recruiting Ogboko.

“I like how they are kind of close to home so my family and any close friends I have can come to the games if they wanted to,” Ogboko said. “They are in the SEC. I feel like that’s one of the best conferences in college football, so I want to play there. I feel like it’s a place where I can get the best development.”

Robertson has not been alone in the Gamecocks’ recruiting campaign with Ogboko. Head coach Shane Beamer has been prominent in the process as well.

“He’s been contacting me through messages, basically showing me the recruiting class they have. They have one of the top recruiting classes,” Ogboko said. “They send people into the league. He’s been heavily recruiting me too.”

Ogboko visited USC for a spring practice in late March and he got the chance to see the facilities, which he said impressed him. He’ll be back for his official visit June 9th. This weekend he will visit Rutgers, and he’s also on the books for a trip to Florida June 16th. He said he will also take unofficial visits to Michigan, Michigan State and NC State. He also visited State, North Carolina and Georgia this spring.

Ogboko, who had 61 tackles with four sacks last season, said he’s looking at the third week of his season, his open week for making a commitment announcement.
