Early period rankings, where the Gamecock are ranked
Dec. 19, 2019
South Carolina’s class came in at 17th in the 247Sports Composite rankings (that factor in all networks) following the cavalcade of commitments to all schools Wednesday. The group opened at 18th, fell to 21st and then rose with Burch and three-star tight end Jaheim Bell committing.
By individual recruiting services, the class ranks:
▪ 247Sports: No. 12
▪ ESPN: No. 16
▪ Rivals: No. 19
▪ 247Sports Composite: No. 17
In the composite rankings, Carolina was 17th last year, the highest for a complete class in the Muschamp era.
The 2020 class is led by Burch, high four-star running back MarShawn Lloyd and four-star QB Luke Doty. All told, The Gamecocks have eight blue chip players, including seven four-stars.
The Gamecocks signed 17 players on Wednesday, though Burch and fellow Hammond defensive lineman Alex Huntley are committed but unsigned at the moment. Carolina can sign them and four other players this cycle. The second and final signing period begins Feb. 5.
At the moment, Gamecocks have two special teams commits, though it remains to be seen if their scholarships will count toward 2020 or 2021. Wide receiver Da’Qon Stewart is also committed and said this week he aims to sign in February.
The Gamecocks are expected to add at least one more running back to the class and could take Northwestern High School (Rock Hill) receiver Ger-Cari Caldwell.
