Yes - That's my favorite VH album as well.Neil Peart and EVH...f**k you 2020!
But in all seriousness...EVH is among the greatest guitar players of all time and possibly the MOST influential. When VH1 dropped in 1979 it was in fact the most unique and impressive thing anyone had ever heard...outside of Jimmy Hendrix...and it was done with a kind of unmatched joy...the dude was absolutely killing it but without ever making a single 'Guitar Face'...they weren't worshipping the devil or singing about dragons or wizards or pretending to be mysterious or ultra-serious about how great he was...the dude was always smiling from ear to ear...he was having...god forbid...FUN! It was 'Party Music' for a party you would actually want to go to. VH themselves lost me around the 'Jump' era but VH1, VH2, Fair Warning...my personal favorite...and Women and Children First are absolute monsters with some of the most incredible guitar work ever recorded...and a f**k ton a absolutely GREAT songs...Ain't Talkin Bout Love, Beautiful Girls, Unchained...favorite VH song ever, So This is Love, Mean Streets, And the Cradle Will Rock..."Have you seen Junior's Grades?!?"...Everybody Wants Some...on and on...all this despite having DLR dicking around and acting a fool the entire time.
I haven't really listening to any VH over the last 20 years or so but I believe a trip down memory lane JUST to hear all the guitar parts and solos is something I simple have...need...to do now.
RIP EVH! There will never be another like him...if he isn't the GOAT...which can be a personal opinion on some level...there sure as hell aren't any 'better'
Never knew that. Thanks! For those who may not know, Eddie Van Halen has a role in the original Back to the Future. Remember that gnarly guitar riff played into the ears of a young George McFly in 1955 when Marty convinced him he was "Darth Vader" from the planet "Vulcan"? That was Eddie.

Of course I wired it backwards and shorted out the whole house, so I went down to a place in Pasadena and asked if there was some kind of industrial-size variable transformer that would let me adjust voltage, and they introduced me to the Variac. It's just a huge light dimmer. I plugged it into the amp and controlled the voltage from that. That became my volume knob. I would set the voltage depending on the size of the room we were playing, getting all that feedback at any volume.
