South Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott visited a new offensive line target Sunday afternoon when he dropped by to visit 3 star guard Trey Derouen 6'4" 309lbs (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview). The Gamecocks are in the market for some offensive linemen with three decommitments from the class and Derouen, a former Mississippi State pledge, has set up an official visit.

South Carolina has not officially offered Derouen at this point.

Quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus was by Parkview High School last week to check on Derouen and Elliott went by the three-star guard's house on Sunday afternoon. While he didn't make it to Columbia for a game this season, Derouen said he hit it off with Elliott on Sunday.

"This past year was a bit of a downfall but the years before they were top 10 in the nation and one of the best defenses," Derouen said. "Coach Spurrier is a great man and so is coach Elliott. Coach Elliott is one of those guys that you need to get you to the next level. He'll get in your face and make you better."

Derouen, who decommitted from Mississippi State on December 7, not officially picked up any new offers since backing off his pledge. He met with Florida recruiter Coleman Hutzler recently and got the impression the Gators were going to offer, depending on what happens with the new coaching staff.

Louisville is another school who Derouen believes will offer.

Right now though, South Carolina is one of the main school Derouen is thinking about and he has an official visit set up for January 23, which is the Gamecocks' big recruiting weekend. It will be his second trip to Columbia with the other trip being in a camp over the summer.

"It is a beautiful campus," Derouen said. "It's a great, small city."

With the recruiting period coming to a close, Derouen isn't in any rush to make a decision.

"I'm just going to wait and see what happens," Derouen said. "I'm going to wait until past the dead period."
