Eric Douglas sees Shawn Elliott; new offers for Keisean Nixon

Nov. 30, 2016

Douglas receives early visit from Elliott

South Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott visited Eric Douglas a day earlier than the 3-star offensive tackle expected.

Elliott went in-home with Douglas on Tuesday night.

“He came to my house today around 6 o’clock. We talked for about an hour, had dinner. We were just talking, me, my dad, my mom,” Douglas said. “Next Tuesday, he should be back with coach ‘Champ.’”

Douglas, who’s committed out of Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, N.C., went into further detail about the visit on Tuesday night.

“Just talking about what we were going to do on the official visit, how things were in my life,” he said. “Coach Elliott was talking about just coming in with a great work ethic. They’re trying to get people in early to make an impact.”

That’s the plan for Douglas, who’s the No. 79-ranked offensive tackle in the Class of 2017.

“I’m starving to get down there and make an early impact,” he said. “I’m not trying to get down there just to eat meals. I’m trying to get down there and trying to earn playing time.”

More from Douglas

On the Clemson game …

“That kind of made me mad and I’m not even there. I just hate losing, especially to your rival. I know how that is and that sucks. You’ve got to wait another year just to get back at them.”

On the season as a whole …

“I said at the beginning of the year, people were asking me about the expectations for the team. … I knew that they were going to get to a bowl game and when they got there, they were going to handle business, so that’s going to build a bunch of momentum going into next year, and I can’t wait to be part of that.”

Junior college defensive backs Kaleb Chalmers and Keisean Nixon remain in South Carolina’s crosshairs.

Two more offers for Nixon

South Carolina defensive back target Keisean Nixon picked up a pair of offers on Tuesday. Tennessee was first, in the morning. Georgia offered later that night.

Oregon State scored an official visit this past weekend and South Carolina had him on campus the previous weekend. Iowa State and Colorado State have already scored visits. With just more than three weeks before his Dec. 17 announcement date, which is his mother’s birthday, Nixon has one visit left to take.

Most folks in the industry believe that South Carolina is running out front.

Nixon has formed connections with two Gamecocks defensive backs — JaMarcus King and Steven Montac. Nixon also is close with fellow JUCO defensive back target Kaleb Chalmers, who took his official visit to South Carolina on the same weekend.

Recruiting roundup

‘Tis the season for cryptic tweets. The latest comes from 3-star cornerback commitment Tavyn Jackson, who expected to meet with Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson on Monday.

Plans changed that night and the two coaches never stopped by Tallahassee, Fla., to meet with him. Then, on Tuesday morning, Jackson sent out the following tweet:

Perhaps he’ll follow the same path as Damarri Mathis. An official visit to Maryland has already been scheduled for this weekend.

According to an interview with Phil Kornblut, 2017 cornerback Yusuf Corker (Stockbridge, Ga.) continues to consider South Carolina.

“I heard one of their DBs de-committed just recently, so, right now, we are just talking and trying to get everything together,” Corker said. “They are just really trying to still sell the program since my commitment date is on Dec. 26, which is my birthday. They just tell me what they need for corners and things of that nature.”

According to a tweet from 2018 kicker B.T. Potter, South Carolina will stop by South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C., on Wednesday.

The Gamecocks have offers out to a couple of prospects from the school, including wide receiver Derion Kendrick, the No. 2 overall in-state prospect for 2018. Potter is working toward that offer.
