Fairgrounds Parking

Does anyone know how the fairgrounds parking works when they have the football game?
I know it is not reserved parking that day. Do you just take whatever open spot you want? How early do you have to be there? Can you still tailgate?

I haven't been in years but when I was going the fair had workers directing you where to park. Tailgating was not allowed IIRC.
