After 10 years, We finally have a manned spaceflight going up from Kennedy Space Center, courtesy of Spacex. The new spacesuits look to be a good bit smaller than the suits the shuttle crews wore early in the program. The astronauts are Col. Bob Behnken, USAF and Col. Doug Hurley, USMC.  Unfortunately, Highway 1 will be the only point where the general public can view the launch, as KSC is closed to visitors, thanks to the Chicom virus. Having been to a few launches during my time in Florida, I still wish I lived there. I believe a few GCF members live near KSC, so who will be watchinglive?

We are concerned about all of of the people who will be packed in along US1 by the river to see it.   Fortunately I can watch from my back yard.

OK, Yancey, we're looking for you to get pictures of the launch!

The astronauts have been in quarantine for the last few weeks at the facility at KSC where all astronauts have been quarantined prior to flight for decades.

launch day!

Fun fact - Commander of this mission is Douglas hunt, who was on the last Shuttle mission in 2011.

Hopefully it goes better than today's engine prototype test.  From a PR standpoint, I am not sure why Spacex would schedule something like this so close it's first launch with an actual crew.

A fourth prototype of SpaceX’s next-generation Starship rocket exploded Friday after a test at the company’s development facility in Texas.

The company was conducting a trial of the rocket’s engine, in a test on the ground known as a static fire. A few minutes after the test, which initially appeared successful, the Starship prototype identified as Serial Number 4 ruptured in a fiery explosion.

This prototype is distinct from the company’s Falcon 9 rocket and Crew Dragon spacecraft, which this weekend is set to launch NASA astronauts from Florida. That rocket system has previously launched satellites and cargo to space successfully dozens of times, after years of development and testing.

Totally unrelated projects. The Falcon 9 rockets used for the today's flights is a tried and true workhorse in recent years. But I agree - they probably should have waited on the starship test.

50-50 chance today.  If it doesn't go same bat-time, same bat-channel tomorrow.  The town is packed with people giving and getting the 'rona.  I'll watch from my front yard.  No way will I try yo go ANYWHERE today!

Your part of the country will go back to its NASA glory days if the SPACEX missions ramp up.
