Florida safety feeling the love from the Gamecocks

2023 SAF Jaremiah Anglin Jr. (6-2 180) of Lake Wales, FL had planned to visit USC last weekend, but he had to postpone the visit until the spring due to some family matters. USC secondary coach Torrian Gray offered Anglin and is highly interested in having him in his defense and had let Anglin know that. He’s greatly appreciative of the attention from Gray and the Gamecocks overall.
“They’ve been showing a lot of love to me,” Anglin said. “Ever since I was at the bottom with no offers, they’ve been showing love. I’m not going to make any promises, but I’m very thankful for what they’ve done for me and how they’ve been showing their love toward me.”
Anglin appears to be quite the player at the back of the defense. Last season he totaled 83 tackles with 5 interceptions, and he returned 4 of those picks for touchdowns. Gray has certainly noticed all that and has shared his evaluation with Anglin.
“They said they like how versatile I am and I’m a once in a generation type of talent,” Anglin said. “They said they like how I high point the ball, and they like my all-around game. The coach told me they really didn’t have a specific position for me, safety or corner. I don’t have a specific position either. Wherever I can get on the field first that’s where I’m going to be.”
This weekend Anglin will visit Miami. He will check out Florida State the following weekend. Gray wants him to visit USC in the spring when he can watch practice and see how they work.
“The plan right now is to go up there and do a bunch with the coaches and players,” Anglin said. “We might do some more stuff, I’m not really sure right now. All he was saying was he wanted me to go up there and get to bond with them and watch how they practice and see the environment.”
Anglin was impressed with what the Gamecocks accomplished in their first season under Shane Beamer, and that success has gotten him excited about the prospects of joining the program.
“They are a great program,” Anglin said. “They have been putting DBs in the league for the last five to ten years. Definitely, they are a great program. If I just happen to fall there it would be a blessing. But like I say, no promises. I’m still going to feel everything out.”
Anglin and Gray seem to be developing a strong relationship, and to the player, it’s been more than just the football talk that’s attracted him.
“Coach Gray makes it more than just being a football player,” Anglin said. “He actually treats me like he’s known me for years. He’s not like, ok, you’re good at football and I’m just going to talk to you now. He really wants to make me a better man, not just a football player, and I really appreciate that.”
The Gamecocks have not yet been in to see Anglin. He has been visited by coaches from USF and Florida State. He also has offers from West Virginia, Arkansas State and Austin Peay. Anglin is looking at his birthday of August 10th for announcing his commitment.
